Emails have been sent misusing the name and address of Buss Murton Law (South East) Limited.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that emails have been sent misusing part of the name and address of a genuine firm (see below).
The emails claim to be from 'Murtons Law' and are in relation to an inheritance payment. The sender requests the recipient to provide their personal details including a copy of their identification documentation.
The emails were sent from the email addresses 'jamalcooper299@gmail.com' and 'claudecooperj@gmail.com', and misuse the genuine postal address of the genuine firm (see below).
The emails provide a telephone number of '+447031991433'.
The SRA does not authorise and regulate solicitors by the name of 'Jamal Cooper' or 'Claude Cooper' or a firm of solicitors by the name of 'Murtons Law'.
Any business or transaction through the above email addresses and telephone number is not undertaken by an individual or firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Buss Murton Law (South East) Limited.
The firm's genuine head office address is Wallside House, 12 Mount Ephraim Road, Tunbridge Wells, TN1 1EE. The firm's genuine telephone number for its head office address is 01892510222.
The firm's genuine email domain ends in '@bussmurton.co.uk'.
Buss Murton Law (South East) Limited has confirmed that it has no connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
