Warning: Documents misusing the names and details of genuine solicitors

Documents have been sent to a member of the public regarding the purported recovery of funds.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that documents have been sent misusing the names and SRA numbers of genuine solicitors regarding the purported recovery of funds.

The documents provided to the SRA include:

  1. a supposed; 'court document' misusing the name and SRA ID of a genuine solicitor (see below).
  2. letters providing the name of 'Law Offices UK Limited' (see below) with a reference number of 'LS 566410' (see below), a telephone number of '+44 2039897170' and an address of '90 Worship, London, E85 5HQ'. An address of a genuine firm's branch office is also provided (see below). In one letter, the document has been supposedly signed by a lawyer with the SRA number: '00298337' (see below for the correct SRA number).
  3. a copy of a supposed 'lawyer licence' for 'Ahmad Mohammad Khouja' with the SRA number '3654468' as well as a British passport in the name of 'Mohammad Khouja Ahmad'.
  4. a document supposedly stamped and signed by a solicitor (see below) with the SRA number: '54482'.
  5. a copy of a supposed identity card misusing the name and SRA number of a genuine solicitor (see below).
  6. a copy of a supposed identity card misusing the name and SRA number of a genuine solicitor (see below).
  7. letters from 'Al Rashid' providing an address of '207 High Road, London, NW10 2SB'. The SRA numbers of genuine solicitors are also used in the correspondence (see below). A telephone number of '+447307485667' has been provided as well as the website address 'lawltd.com' and the email address 'info@alrashed'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor by the name of 'Ahmad Mohammad Khouja' or 'Mohammad Khouja Ahmad'.

The SRA does not authorise a firm of solicitors called 'Al Rashid'.

The recipient has also been contacted on the following WhatsApp numbers '+44 7307 485667' ', '+44 7706 529065', '+44 7738 842006', '+44 1953 661467', '+44 20 7097 2580' '+44 1933 823333' and '+44 20 3989 7170'.

Any business or transactions through the above contact numbers, postal addresses, website address, email address and SRA numbers is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a solicitor by the name of Ameen Jamal Abboud with the SRA number: 645587. The genuine Ameen Jamal Abboud has confirmed that he has no connection to the above matter.  

The SRA authorised and regulated a genuine firm of solicitors called Law Offices UK Limited with the SRA number: 566410 which closed on 15 March 2024. The firm's head office address was 52 Town Street, Farsley, Leeds, LS28 5LD. The address is now occupied by a branch office of PM Property Lawyers Limited. PM Property Lawyers Limited is believed to have no connection to the above matter.   

The SRA authorises and regulates solicitors with the first and middle name of James Robert. None of the genuine solicitors are believed to have any connection to the above matter.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Adel Sheikh with the SRA number: 298337. The genuine Adel Sheikh is believed to have no connection to the above matter.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Saleh Ali Alnoud with the SRA number: 338444. The genuine Saleh Ali Alnoud has confirmed that he has no connection to the above matter.  

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Shadi Mallah with the SRA number: 410059. The genuine Shadi Mallah has confirmed that he has no connection to the above matter.    

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
