Qualifying with the LPC and a period of recognised training pathway
September 2024
You can only qualify through this route if you meet our transitional requirements. If you do not meet these, you will need to qualify under the SQE.
Alongside having a qualifying law degree and the Legal Practice Course, here are the steps you need to take before applying for admission as a solicitor of England and Wales.
Create your mySRA account
- Create a mySRA account – this is where you will tell us about your training and apply for admission. Find out how to create an account.
Register your training
- You must register your period of recognised training (often known as a training contract). You need to do this at least 30 days before it starts. Find out how to register your training.
Complete the Professional Skills Course
- The Professional Skills Course (PSC) is the final, compulsory part of training on the LPC route and usually takes place during a period of recognised training. Find out more about the PSC.
Background checks and suitability
- We check your suitability when you are applying for admission. You can also speak to us early if you have any potential concerns.
- You will need to do a background check/screening. We will contact you eight weeks before your training is due to end so you can do this. Once complete, you are ready to apply for admission. Find out more about screening.
Applying for admission
- Once your training is signed off by your employer (up to four weeks before it ends), and the screening process is complete, you can apply for admission. Find out more about applying for admission.
- When applying, you will choose 'Trainee Solicitor (period of recognised training)' on the application.
Applying for a practising certificate
- Once you have chosen your admission date, you can apply for a practising certificate. Find out how to apply.
