Warning: Emails and website misusing the name of Edward Shaun Evans

A website has been created at 'www.edwardshaunevans-law.co.uk' and emails have been sent misusing the name of Edward Shaun Evans.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen an email which misuses the name of a genuine solicitor (see below) in relation to a possible inheritance scam. It purports to have been sent from Edward Evans from 'Edward Shaun Evans Law'.

The email is in relation to the supposed estate of a long-lost relative of the recipient.

The SRA has also been made aware that a bogus website is operating at 'www.edwardshaunevans-law.co.uk' misusing the name of a genuine solicitor (see below).

The website provides the email address 'info@edwardshaunevans-law.co.uk' and the telephone number '+447429917374'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitor called 'Edward Shaun Evans Law'.

Any business or transaction through 'Edward Shaun Evans Law', the website 'www.edwardshaunevans-law.co.uk', 'info@edwardshaunevans-law.co.uk' and the telephone number '+447429917374' is not undertaken by a genuine firm of solicitors authorised or regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Edward Shaun Evans.

Edward Shaun Evans has confirmed he does not have any genuine connection to the scam referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
