Warning: Emails misusing the details of Mantins Limited (trading as Mantins Solicitors & Notaries)
5 January 2026
Emails sent misusing the name Mantins Solicitors & Notaries referring to a Contract Bundle.
What is the scam?
The SRA has seen an email misusing the name of a genuine law firm (see below). The email misuses the address, telephone number and fax number of the genuine firm (see below).
The subject of the email is 'Correspondence to Buyer's Solicitors Enclosing Contract Bundle' and the email refers to “attached initial documentation”. A concern is that the attached documentation may contain malware.
The email seen by the SRA claims to be from 'Treacy Liam, Legal Secretary' and was sent from the email address 'Liam@treacydixon.com'.
The footer to the email also gives the names of two genuine solicitors (see below) and the genuine SRA number for a former genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual solicitor named 'Liam Treacy' or 'Treacy Liam'.
Any business or transaction through the email address 'Liam@treacydixon.com' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA previously authorised and regulated Mantins Solicitors & Notaries, whose SRA ID number was 543162, which ceased trading on 1 September 2024
The SRA now authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Mantins Limited (trading as Mantins Solicitors & Notaries) (SRA ID 8007787). The genuine firm uses the genuine email domain @mantins.co.uk. Its head office is 23a High Street, Southwold, IP18 6AD and contact number is 01502 724750 and fax number 01502 797930.
The SRA also authorises and regulates solicitors called Katherine Hopkins and Katie Mantin who are partners at the genuine firm.
The genuine firm Mantins Limited (trading as Mantins Solicitors & Notaries) has confirmed that it does not have any connection with the email referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
