Chartered Legal Executives Equivalent Means pathway

You can only qualify through this route if you meet our transitional requirements. If you do not meet these, you will need to qualify under the SQE.
You can qualify through this route until 31 December 2032 if you have completed, started, or had accepted an offer of a place for:
- a qualifying law degree (by 21 September 2021)
- the Common Professional Examination / Graduate Diploma in Law (by 1 September 2021)
- the Legal Practice Course (LPC).
What you need to have
You will not need to complete a period of recognised training if you have:
- met our academic stage requirements through study or exemptions granted
- completed the LPC
- completed the core elements of the Professional Skills Course
- been engaged as a Chartered Legal Executive in the practice of law.
Here are the steps you need to take before applying for admission as a solicitor of England and Wales.
Create your mySRA account
- Create a mySRA account – this is where you will tell us about your training and apply for admission. Find out how to create an account.
Background checks and suitability
- We check your suitability when you are applying for admission. You can also speak to us early if you have any potential concerns.
- You will need to do a background check/screening. Once complete, you are ready to apply for admission. Find out how to apply for screening.
Applying for admission
- When you apply, choose 'Chartered Legal Executives' on the application. Find out more about applying for admission.
- You will be asked to upload the following documents when applying for admission:
- a copy of a certificate of good standing from CILEx Regulation. This must be less than three months old (we recommend that the date of issue is no longer than two months on the date you make your application) and confirm:
- your date of admission
- that you are in good standing
- that you have not been subject to any disciplinary proceedings
- that there are not any pending disciplinary proceedings against you
- that you are currently entitled to practise.
- a copy of your Professional Skills Course certificate(s)
- a copy of your LPC certificate.
- a copy of a certificate of good standing from CILEx Regulation. This must be less than three months old (we recommend that the date of issue is no longer than two months on the date you make your application) and confirm:
