Warning: Documents from 'Legale Padovan' in relation to the recovery of funds

Correspondence has been sent from 'Legale Padovan', regarding the purported recovery of investments funds.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that documents have been sent to a member of the public in relation to the supposed recovery of investment funds.

The email seen by the SRA has been sent from 'Nesti Walter' from the email address 'avv.nestiwalter@legalepadovan.com'. The email provided a telephone number of '‪+44 7520 644875' and a WhatsApp number of '‪+44 7544 370861' as well as a website address of 'www.Legalepadovan.com' (see below).

Among the documents provided, and seen by the SRA was:

  1. a supposed legal contract with a registration number of '588993'. The document misused the postal address occupied by genuine firms (see below).
  2. a supposed power of attorney document with a registration number of '648927' and an email address of 'contact@legalepadovan.com'.

A website is also operating at 'www.Legalepadovan.com'. The website seen by the SRA provides a telephone number of '+44 7453 510716'. The document also referred to a lawyer by the name of 'Giacomo Padovan'.

The SRA does not authorise a firm of solicitors called 'Legale Padovan' or a law firm with the above registration numbers.  

Any business or transactions through the above individuals, email addresses, telephone numbers or the above website is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates Luris Vince Solicitors Limited. The firm's head office address is ground floor, 36 Alie Street, London, E1 8DA. The genuine firm has confirmed that it has no connection to the above matter.

The SRA authorises and regulates Barclay Solicitors Limited. The firm's head office address is second floor, 36 Alie Street, London, E1 8DA. The genuine firm has confirmed that it has no connection to the above matter.

A genuine firm called Studio Legale Padovan based in Italy has confirmed that it has no connection to the above website, nor an individual referred to as 'Giacomo Padovan'.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
